Climb Pisco Mountain

Pisco is one of the most popular mountains for climbing in the Cordillera Blanca mainly for two reasons, one is its location among some higher mountains like Huascaran, Chopicalqui, Huandoy peaks, and Chacraraju, and the second one because it has one of the most spectacular views that the Cordillera Blanca can offer us. Pisco is quite easy to climb and you do not need previous climbing experience when you attempt it with a certified guide.

DAY 01: HUARAZ – YURAJCORAL – PISCO BASE CAMP (4,680 M.)

After breakfast in the hotel, we take private transport to drive along the Callejon de Huaylas on the north side of Huaraz city, we pass through different towns such as Carhuaz 2,650 m.  and Yungay town which was buried by an avalanche that fell from the Huascaran north peak in 1970, from the New Yungay at 2,500 m. we get to the Llanganuco valley, where we reach the Huascaran National Park office, where we get our entrance fee, then we continue driving along the valley where we will appreciate two lakes, Chinancocha and Orconcocha. We arrive Yurajcoral camp where the donkey drivers with their donkey wait for us to support us carrying all the camping equipment until the base camp, it has a nice view of some mountains like Huascaran, Chopicalqui, Pisco, Huandoys and Yanapaccha and we spend the night at 4,680 m.

DAY 02: PISCO BASE CAMP – MORAINE CAMP (4,850 M.)

After having a delicious breakfast, we check our climbing gear and we have an early lunch at 11:00 a.m. then we start climbing up to the moraine camp, we go walk along a rocky path for about 3 hours to reach the moraine camp where we have dinner and spend the night at 4,850 m.

DAY 03: MORAINE CAMP – PISCO SUMMIT (5,752 M.) –BASE CAMP

We have an early breakfast and we start climbing at 01:00 a.m. on a rocky path for around an hour to reach the glacier where we put on our climbing equipment to start climbing up to the Pisco Summit 5,752 m. Pisco summit has one of the beautiful views of some mountains such as Artesonraju, Alpamayo, Caraz, Huascaran, Chopicalqui, Yanapaccha, Chacraraju, Contrayerbas, Huandoys, and other ones. we can appreciate the beautiful turquoise 69 Lake after that, we climb down to the moraine camp where the porters and the cook waiting for us with a nice meal after that, we continue walking down to reach the base camp of Pisco and we spend a night there.

DAY 04: BASE CAMP – LLANGANUCO LAKES – HUARAZ

After having breakfast, we go down to Yurajcoral camp for around 3 hours, there is private transport wait for us to take us back to Huaraz along the Llanganuco valley passing through Orconcocha, and Chinancocha lakes, we have lunch on the way after that, we continue driving until Huaraz for around 3 hours more.
