Vallunaraju is a mountain near Huaraz city it is a good option for those climbing beginners for taking a climbing course before climbing another peak in the Cordillera Blanca.
DAY 01: HUARAZ – LLACA – MORAINE CAMP OF VALLUNARAJU (4,900 M.)
After having breakfast in the hotel, we leave on a private transport at 8:00 a.m. to the east side of Huaraz to Llaca valley, where we start climbing up for 2-3 hours to reach the moraine camp during the trail we can appreciate the view of some mountains like San Juan, Ranrapalca, and Ocshapalca, we arrive the moraine camp and spend the night there.
DAY 02: MORAINE CAMP – MOUNTAIN TRAINING – MORAINE CAMP
After having breakfast at Campo Moraine of Vallunaraju, we start climbing on a rocky path for around half an hour when we reach the glacier, we put on our climbing equipment such as crampons, harnesses, helmets, ice ax, etc. Then on the glacier, we start training using correctly the rope making some knots, wearing correctly the crampons, and using well the ice ax. We train on a small wall of 60 ° – 70 ° degrees of 12, 15 meters, we rappel on a fixed rope, we train also self-rescue in a crevasse then in the afternoon we go back to the moraine camp have some meal and spend a night there.
DAY 03: MORAINE CAMP – VALLUNARAJU SUMMIT (5,686 M.) – HUARAZ
After having an early and light breakfast we start climbing at 01:00 a.m. after climbing up about 5-6 hours on the glacier, we reach the top of Vallunaraju at 5,686 m. where we enjoy the beautiful view of some beautiful mountains like Huascaran, Tocllaraju, Copa, Ranrapalca, Ocshapalca, Huantzan, and other ones. After that, we start climbing down for 3 hours till the moraine camp, where the cook waiting for us with a nice hot lunch. Then, we start trekking down to Llaca Valley, where a private transport waits for us to take us back to Huaraz.
