Cedros Alpamayo is a beautiful trek where you will enjoy the view of beautiful turquoise and green lakes and mountain’s view like Alpamayo, Quitaraju, Santa Cruz, and Pucajirca, most of the high points are over 4,500 m all of them have spectacular panoramic views of the trek.
DAY 01: HUARAZ – LLANGANUCO – VAQUERIA – TUCTU 4,200 M.
After breakfast at your hotel, we board the private transport to drive along the Callejon de Huaylas, which is on the north side of Huaraz city. We pass through different towns like Carhuaz 2,650 m, Yungay which was buried by an avalanche that fell from the Huascaran north peak in 1970, from the New Yungay at 2,500 m. we get to the Llanganuco valley, where we reach the Huascaran National Park office, where we get our entrance fee, then we continue driving along the valley where we will appreciate two lakes, Chinancocha and Orconcocha after that, we continue driving up until Portachuelo Pass 4,760 m. where we will have a spectacular view of different peaks such as Huascarán, Chopicalqui, Pisco, Huandoys, Chacraraju, and other ones. Later, we start driving down to Vaqueria village where the donkey driver’s whit their donkeys will be waiting for us in order to start trekking, we walk up about 5 hours to reach Tuctu the first camp of the trek.
DAY 02: TUCTU – PUNTA UNIÓN – TUCTU (4,200 M – 4,750 M)
After breakfast, we start trekking up to the Punta Union pass 4,750 m. for about 3 hours, on the trail way, we have a nice view of some mountains like Huascaran, Chopicalqui, Chacraraju, Contrahierbas, Yanapaccha, etc. Punta Union pass is the highest point of the Santa Cruz trek that has a spectacular view through two valleys Santa Cruz and Huaripampa, they show the flora, lakes, rivers, and mountains, and after reaching Punta Union Pass, we return to the same camp, Tuctu and we spend one night more.
DAY 03: TUCTU – PASO PUCAJIRCA – QUISUAR (4,200 M. – 4,650 M. – 3,900 M.)
After breakfast at Tuctu camp, we start walking up for about 2 to 3 hours until we reach the Pucajirca pass 4,640 m. then we go down on a zigzag, this day we have a pleasant view of beautiful landscape surrounded by many florae then we arrive at the Huecroncocha lake where we’ll have lunch. Then we walk for about 40 minutes to reach Quisuar a small town where we spend the night at 3,900 m.
DAY 04: QUISUAR – PASO TUPA TUPA – JANCAPAMPA (3,900 M. – 4,400 M. – 3,600 M.)
After breakfast in the camp, we start going up a moderate path enjoying the view of the beautiful landscape after walking for about 2-3 hours we reach Tupatupa Pass at 4,400 m, it has an amazing view of Taulliraju, Pucajirca peaks, Contrahierbas, and Chopicallqui mountains. After that, we go down along Pucajirca’s base camp. Then, we arrive at Jancapampa camp, it is near Pishgopampa village where people still maintain the customs and traditions of their ancestors.
DAY 05: JANCAPAMPA – YANACON PASS – TAYAPAMPA (3,600 M. – 4,600 M. – 4,100 M.)
After breakfast, we start trekking up within the forest, and beautiful flora. We walk about 5-6 hours to reach the Yanacon Pass, which has a spectacular view of mountains, we walk down to Willca where we can see some local people farming alpacas and llamas and we continue trekking till reach Tayapampa camp it has an amazing view of beautiful mountains.
DAY 06: TAYAPAMPA – PASO MESAPATA – CARA-CARA – JANCARURISH (4,100 M. – 4,460 M. – 4,800 M. – 4,200 M.)
After breakfast, we start going up on in zigzag for about 1 hour and a half to reach Mesapata pass at 4,460 m. after reaching it, we walk down Moyobamba valley after that we go up to Cara Cara Pass for about 03 hours, we have the view of the Santa Cruz peaks, Alpamayo, Quitaraju, Tayapampa mountains, and other ones. We have lunch after the pass, then we walk down to Jancarurish, this camp has a beautiful view of the west face of Alpamayo.
DAY 07: JANCARURISH – CAMPAMENTO BASE DE ALPAMAYO – RUINAPAMPA (4,200 M. – 4,650 M. – 4,025 M.)
After breakfast, we go up to the Jancarurish lake till get to the viewpoint of the Alpamayo mountain, Alpamayo has a pyramidal shape well-known by foreign climbers because it is considered the most beautiful mountain in the world. Later, we continue along Ruinapampa valley where we can continue enjoying the view of Alpamayo peak after 2 hours of walking we arrive at the Ruinapampa camp where we can appreciate the pre-Inka buildings, terraces, and platforms.
DAY 08: RUINAPAMPA – JATUNVIENTONA PASS – OSORURI (4,025 M. – 4,750 M. – 4,500 M.)
After breakfast at Ruinapampa camp, we start going up on zigzag to the Jatunvientunan pass 4, 750 m. for about 04 – 05 hours, where we enjoy the beautiful view of Santa Cruz and Milluaraju peaks, and we can have a nice view of the Cordillera Negra. After having lunch in a nice viewpoint, we walk down for about an hour to Osoruri Camp, this camp is a good place for sunset photos.
DAY 09: OSORURI – CULLICOCHA PASS – CALAMINA (4,500 M – 4,900 M – 3,650 M.)
After breakfast in the camp, we go up for an hour to reach the Jatunvientunan pass, then we go down for about an hour more to the blue lake of Cullicocha, one of the most beautiful lakes it is just below Santa Cruz peaks. After having lunch in a nice place, we continue walking till getting to Calamine camp, from this camp we can appreciate a beautiful sunset over the Cordillera Negra on the west side.
DAY 10: CALAMINA – HUALCAYAN – HUARAZ (3,650 M. – 3,100 M.)
After breakfast, we go down in a zigzag trail for about 03-04 hours to reach Hualcayan a small village where we end the trek, we take private transport in order to visit to return Huancarhuas hot springs where we can relax and take a hot shower after that we return to Huaraz city on private transport.
